When we were in Hwange National park I saw lots of incredible animals but one that stood out to me was the jackal. Later I learned that jackals are sometimes killed by lions to play with. Jackals are like a cross between a german shepard and a fox. They are small and fast. Jackals primarily live in Africa. They will eat animals that are already dead or hunt small things like birds. The side striped jackal can be preyed upon by leopards, hyenas and eagles. You might call jackals opportunistic omnivores because they hunt and eat small antelopes, reptiles and insects, but if they come across berries, grass or fruits they will eat them. When we were in Hwange National Park which is in Africa, we saw a family of jackals with the mom and the dad and 4 pups (a baby jackal is called a pup). The parents had gone off to hunt and the pups took that chance to misbehave while their parents couldn't see them. Although when they saw the mom coming they ran into their den and pretended like they had been in there the whole time. After we had driven for about a minute we saw the dad pretending to hunt but really just avoiding the pups. I like jackals because unlike dogs they have two less teeth then a normal dog. I also like the fact that jackals are one of the oldest known species of dog. They can also run 40 miles an hour. In my opinion jackals are an incredible animal and can teach us a lot. But I'm pretty sure this blog post can't.
